Alcohol and P90X

by Jesse

no-drinking“I am working out hard but not losing the weight, what am I doing wrong?”  This is a serious question that I ask a lot of people when they tell me that they are working out and not getting the results that they want.  It is a known fact that if you want to get the results you crave you have to take what you eat as seriously as you are your workouts.  What you are eating is basically the fuel that your body needs in order to see the maximum results that we can possible achieve.  It can get really frustrating what you are busting your butt everyday doing P90X and not looking like the pictures of other peoples success stories.

What amazes me is that people are willing to work so hard, by keep pushing play with something like P90X and then they choose to go out to the bar.  When they get to the bar they have 6 beers = 130/calories a beer on average  or a grand total of 780 calories.  To compound this, beer also has a ton of empty carbohydrates that will go right to your belly (beer belly).  The icing on the cake for you should be that when you drink more than 2 alcoholic beverages in one sitting, because alcohol is a poison your body does everything it can to work the alcohol out of your system.  What this basically means for you is that all the energy is focused on getting the alcohol out and everything else is turned to fat.

When people hear a lot of these things about alcohol and how it can have a major affect on your metabolism it can throw them for a real curve-ball.  Drinking alcohol is a major part of people lives, no matter where you are from.  When you are used to everyone you know going out and drinking, having to change that can be quite a deal.  For me personally when I was ready for a change in the way I looked and felt, I  decided to take a break from drinking. I knew that it would only hinder my process and I really wanted to make sure that I achieved my goals.

I started out with the end in mind and when I was going out I always would be the driver or would simply choose other things to do other than going out to the bar.  The challenge that you will see when you commit to slowing down or taking a break from alcohol is that people will actually try to make you feel bad about not drinking.  At first this phenomenon really bothered me, then I realized what really was going on.  People try to make you feel bad or weird about not participating in what is going on because they are afraid if you do well they will lose you.  I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes your friends and family can be some of your biggest obstacles.  You have to know that first and foremost, they do care about you and want you to be happy.  They are just scared because you are so committed to success and feel like you won’t want to be around them any more.

Whether you are doing P90X or any other of the wide variety of Beachbody Products,  you have to stick to your guns.  You have to do what is best for you. If you want to lose the weight and get stronger,  you will have to be willing to make the right type of sacrifices that will point you to your goal.   If you are ready to start getting into the best shape of your life, please let me know.  As a Beachbody Coach I will do everything I can to help you with your goals.
