Eat Right, Cheat Right

When talking to a lot of people I know about working out and feeling their best, I often hear that many people have huge issues with food. People are always telling me, “I workout but I am still not getting the results that I want, what do I need to do?”  The first thing that I always think of when someone tells me this is…what are you eating and how much are you eating of it?  I have come to realization that many people are closet eaters and I really don’t think they realize how counterproductive that habit can be.  Even if you are sweating and working your butt off, what you eat is the big difference maker.

Here are a few tips to help you eat better

1. Look at the unhealthy foods in an abundant form. If you realize that there is an infinite amount of pizza’s and burgers out there, you will not crave them as much. Settle down people, those foods are not going anywhere.

2. When you do crave something that you should not be eating, try to associate it with something extremely negative. For example, when I want to eat pizza, I think of the pizza going into my stomach and getting broken down. From that point I will actually visualize it clogging up my arteries and causing my heart to work harder. This sounds strange, but if you actually visualize it well enough, I promise you that you will not want to eat that food.

3. Ask yourself…Do I really need this? If you can get that craving down and really start to associate that food with something negative, you will be amazed at how easy it is to stop eating that. Is that instant gratification worth more than the 1 hour of blood, sweat and tears you just pounded out in your workout?

4. Finally, once a week, eat what you want for 1 meal. In the business they call this a “cheat meal”. What it is really for is something to help you realize that those food are not going anywhere. They will always be here so you can drop that sense of urgency that you have to eat them now!

Remember, you need way less food than you think you do. The control come from how you actually view the food itself. If you truly want to look and feel your best, it will happen for you.
