How to Get Motivated for a Workout

by Jesse

“It happens to the best of us” is an expression that can best describe a feeling of slump or depression or lethargy. Even the most motivated person in the world at some point in his or her own life and/or every now and then may feel a bit sluggish and unmotivated. We all have our down moments but with tiny steps moving forward, the road to optimism and all that is positive is not far down the path you are currently walking on. And this goes for all our endeavors including the workout. At times, our body seems like heavier than the largest sequoia tree in the forest when our schedule to exercise queues in.

There are a few things to bear in mind that will lead away you from this quicksand of lethargy. First off, learn to prioritize and have a goal. Yes, it is not wrong to be driven and aggressive especially with your career but when it gets to the point that you have no ultimate goal and your health is on the brink of collapse, I think it is high time for you to pause, relax, put your health on the top of your list, and make a viable goal that can be attained in a short span of time. For instance, this week, you may want to be able to finish walking ten blocks. After being able to do so, increase the number of blocks in the coming days. And then make variations like for example, instead of walking, jog the first three blocks then walk the next three. Or alternate jogging and walking for each block.

Second, search for a model, a person you would want to be when it comes to body built and tone. Just like walking and jogging, do not start out high by setting impossible goals like doing a twenty kilometer run when you are just a novice. Research on people who have become icons in muscle toning field and read up on how they were able to become what they are right now.

Get excited about your goal. Psych yourself up by talking about your achievements in jogging even though they would seem uneventful and boring to some. Visualize what you will look like and how light and active you will feel a few months from now. That will really pump you up.

Write your goal on a piece of paper and post it where you can readily see it and remind you of your goal. Always reading up on what you are supposed to do on a specified day keeps you on focus on the task that lay ahead. If you can, you can even join those fancy marathons that are televised.

Being a Beachbody Coach means that I need not only help others get motivated but I also need to keep myself motivated.  If you have any suggestions that help keep you motivated to “keep pushing play” please let me know if the comments section.
